Kennedy School Community Room
Cajun Jam & Dance with live music
On Sunday afternoons, the Hostel Café in Portland, Oregon provides a friendly setting for this TrailJams Irish traditional tune session. TrailJams is a music community focused on making acoustic music together outside for the enjoyment of the musicians and of people passing by. The cozy café makes a great place to keep the music going in the winter. In better weather, the tune playing moves out to the café’s courtyard. Guests of the Hostel Café and the adjoining Northwest Portland Hostel are likely to settle at one of the nearby tables to enjoy the music.
COVID Policy:
Please be fully vaccinated for COVID-19 if you are joining this session — that is a request, not a requirement.
Uilleann piper Preston Howard Wilde leads an Irish piping session - it’s a wonderful way to spend a Sunday afternoon, all ages, 2-4 pm.
Mar 16 - pre-empted by St. Patrick‘s Day Celebration. Irish piping tunes can be heard on Mar 17 (Mon) from 11 am to 1 pm.
A Renaissance School Dance Hall

The dances will be a balance of familiar dances and unfamiliar dances. The callers will encourage dancers to incorporate style points such as quality of movement, timing, transitions and dancing with the music.
We ask that dancers be comfortable dancing standard English Dance figures including:
- Heys in various orientations
- Regular and Double figure eights
- Triple minor progressions
- Dancing with couples outside of your group of 4
- Straight and draw poussettes.
Mask Policy:
PCDC has authorized committees to make decisions about masking policies for their own events. All regular Contra and English dances will be mask-optional. Check the upcoming dances information to verify status of a dance.
COVID Policy:
PCDC no longer requires proof of vaccination, but we continue to encourage everyone to be vaccinated. While currently available COVID-19 vaccines no longer do much to prevent transmission, they continue to be effective for protecting oneself from more serious illness.
The Virtual Songwriters Spotlight will take place online on the second Sunday of each month, so the first get together will be Sunday December 8, 2024. Zoom will open by 6:15 pm and we‘ll start singing at 6:30 pm. You do not have to be a PFS member to join. No fee, and first come, first sing.
We will just go around and sing songs we have written. We‘ll start with the usual expectations around limited chatter, no pre-recorded anything, everyone welcome, numbering participants by order of arrival, welcoming any genre of music, free, and being nice kind people.
All we‘ll do is share our original tunes and enjoy other songwriters‘ unique creations. Feedback on songs may be welcome - it‘s up to the singer - but it will take place in private chat only. The VSS will be hosted by Sonya Kazen, Ken Gaines, and Paul Rippey. And maybe you - we‘ll be looking for additional hosts!

With a career spanning over two decades, Hanneke Cassel has helped redefine what it means to be a modern fiddler. Fusing musical influences from the Isle of Skye and Cape Breton Island with Americana stylings, she blends originality and innovation with the spirit of Scottish traditional fiddle, $25 advance/$28 day of show.
Prepare for a performance described by the Boston Globe as “exuberant and rhythmic, somehow wild and innocent, delivered with captivating melodic clarity and an irresistible playfulness.” Beyond the strings of her fiddle, Hanneke’s generous presence and passion round out her magnetism as a performer on the world stage of fiddle music.
Hanneke will be joined on stage by Yann Falquet (guitar) and Tristan Clarridge (cello).

Kelly Brightwell & Woody Moran lead a song circle at The Artichoke every 3rd Sunday of the month. Bring your instrument, bring your songs (original or cover), bring your voice and let’s share some songs around the circle, suggested donation $5-$10 (doors open at 12:30 pm).
Americana artist Kelly Brightwell and folk-rocker Woody Moran serve up catchy harmonies and heartfelt messages with a sound reminiscent of The Civil Wars, Birds of Chicago, and UK band The Shires. The award-winning songwriters perform as a duo and with a full band in the Pacific Northwest region, playing house concerts, listening rooms and festival stages.
