What is this?
Every Sunday, hosted by Patrick Connell and Kaden Hurst, $15 drop-in.
Ever wonder what makes a bluegrass jam sound organized and deliberate, like a band, even when it's just a casual jam? The essence of bluegrass is informality, but there is something inherently magical about how the players organize, differentiating it from being a twang-heavy song circle.
We cover kick-offs, turnarounds, soloing, and the general principles of leading a song within a group of friends or strangers.
Of course, we always end up learning new material in a session, but the focus is more on what to do with the song once we've learned it, sharpening our ability to play it within a group of other bluegrass musicians, in a way that is compatible with other folks' skill sets.
Bring your instrument and an open-mind, and leave with the tools to be a bluegrass champ.
