Artichoke Community Music online class led by Tracy Kim, $120 for four 80-minute sessions. This round of Gypsy Jazz Boot Camp will focus on for hand-picked solos of Django Reinhardt.

This class is for the student who wishes to learn(or improve) Gypsy Jazz in the style of Django Reinhardt. Taught by Tracy Kim, who has been teaching and playing this style for 20 years.

This is a class for people who love to sing and would like to get better at it, in a new Zoom format that incorporates the essence of those participatory, learning experiences with her new class, “Sing More Better.” Taught in the oral tradition, we’ll use sing-along and call and response formats with easy, fun songs from around the world to help you learn breath control, pitch, harmony, new repertoire and lift our spirits while we are lifting our voices.

Blues harp from the heart -- Playing the harmonica really does strengthen your abs and improve your breathing. Probably the only instrument you play by inhaling, it is magical and mystical. Also, it’s one of the most affordable, portable and intimate of instruments, a friend to carry wherever you go. And it is a key element of America’s fabulous musical tradition, the blues. But it ain’t easy! All levels welcome, including beginners, as long as you are willing (and happy) to practice daily.

Dadgad guitar tuning (dadgad) was popularized by Irish guitarists like Míchéal O‘Domhnaill (Bothy Band, Nightnoise, Relativity) and Arty McGlynn (Patrick Street, DeDannan, Four Men and A Dog, Van Morrison) as a distinctive new sound in progressive Irish music. Whether you play rock, country, folk or world music, this tuning works on all styles. Míchéal O‘Domhnaill shared the basics with Kate in 1981 when he lived in Portland, and now those tips will be shared with you.

Come develop your right hand technique for flamenco guitar including pulgar (thumb), arpeggio, rest stroke picado, rasgueo, and abanico chico. In this class students will learn material for two different palos (styles) of flamenco, Tangos and Solea. Recommended for guitarists who have a basic understanding of Tangos and Solea compas and marcajes. New students with previous flamenco guitar experience are welcome to join and will be given videos to study before the first class. Classical, flamenco, or nylon string guitar required.

Clawhammer Banjo is fun to learn, comfortable to play, and great for any age. You can play fiddle tunes, use chords to sing songs, or just have fun figuring out your own music. We’ll learn how to tune the banjo, how to bum-ditty, we’ll even learn scales and chords! No musical experience is necessary. We’ll start small and add a little more each class, by the end you’ll be playing three tunes.
