Every Tuesday from Apr 26 through May 31, led by Steve Cheseborough, $50 for six classes. ONLINE CLASS VIA ZOOM.

The wonderful standard "Corrine, Corrina," written by bluesman Bo Carter in 1928 and later covered by many other artists in various genres, is a great antidote to worrying about Corona! We‘ll try to get everyone playing and singing it. The instructor will teach the guitar part (simple, easy to sing along with) and the harmonica part (challenging but fun) and a bunch of verses. If you want to join us on another instrument, come on in! Unfortunately Zoom doesn‘t really allow for ensemble playing but we‘ll try see how it goes. (harmonica or guitar, and singing, possible other instruments) And after the restrictions are released we‘ll have to try getting together to jam on it in person! Contact instructor Steve Cheseborough, chezztone@gmail.com, with any questions.

Every Sunday, hosted by Patrick Connell and Kaden Hurst, $15 drop-in.

Ever wonder what makes a bluegrass jam sound organized and deliberate, like a band, even when it‘s just a casual jam? The essence of bluegrass is informality, but there is something inherently magical about how the players organize, differentiating it from being a twang-heavy song circle.

We cover kick-offs, turnarounds, soloing, and the general principles of leading a song within a group of friends or strangers.

Of course, we always end up learning new material in a session, but the focus is more on what to do with the song once we‘ve learned it, sharpening our ability to play it within a group of other bluegrass musicians, in a way that is compatible with other folks‘ skill sets.

Bring your instrument and an open-mind, and leave with the tools to be a bluegrass champ.

If you’ve been playing old-time music on fiddle, clawhammer banjo, or guitar for a while and are ready to meet and play with other people, then this class is for you!

Instructors are Maggie Lind (clawhammer banjo), Patrick Lind (guitar), Sophie Enloe (fiddle). Previous experience on your instrument is required. If you are playing in the fiddle or banjo sections, you should be fairly comfortable picking out melody notes by ear but we are working on developing this skill as well. Guitarists should be familiar with the following open position chords: A, C, D, E, F, G and able to play the bass note/after strum or “boom chuck” technique.

Every 1st Saturday, a once monthly old time jam, hosted by Martha Stone, $5, ages 8 and up.

We will be playing acoustic Americana music, with an emphasis on old time Appalachian fiddle tunes. Old time is different from bluegrass in that no one takes a break (solo), everyone plays all the time, so you get a lot of practice! Our format is simple, each person in the group gets to choose a tune (you can pass), tell everyone what key it’s in, and off we go! Being polite is mandatory, we’re here to encourage, not criticize.

This is not an instructional class, so you should already be able to play a few tunes up to speed on your instrument. It is homegrown music as it was meant to be and promises to be as enjoyable to all.

Sunday Easy Swing started a few years ago as a weekly informal workshop and jam session. All instruments and levels get the chance to learn and jam in a relaxed setting.

The idea was simple: to teach/analyze/learn and jam on classic swing repertoire starting with the jazz/blues and then into songs of the Great American Songbook (Gershwin, Cole Porter, Duke Ellington, etc).
