The Electric Campfire Acoustic Jam - every LAST Sunday of the month, free, all ages.

This is an interactive come and go song circle. We provide instruments (piano, guitars, bass, small assorted hand-held instruments, etc.) or you can bring your own acoustic instrument.

We have free refreshments including some wine and beer or you can bring your own. Nothing for sale.

Everyone encouraged to participate. We are vaccinated but we don‘t require anyone else to be.

Upstairs at the Peninsula Odd Fellows Lodge IOOF 128, 4834 N Lombard.

On Sunday afternoons, the Hostel Café in Portland, Oregon provides a friendly setting for this TrailJams Irish traditional tune session. TrailJams is a music community focused on making acoustic music together outside for the enjoyment of the musicians and of people passing by. The cozy café makes a great place to keep the music going in the winter. In better weather, the tune playing moves out to the café’s courtyard. Guests of the Hostel Café and the adjoining Northwest Portland Hostel are likely to settle at one of the nearby tables to enjoy the music.

NOTE: No session on Jun 7 (Sun) to make space for the Community Gathering.

We believe great things happen when we play tunes together! People connect with each other and make friends, and we keep our music traditions alive by sharing tunes and passing them on. What’s more, playing tunes can make you feel happy, and if you do it often enough, you’ll notice that you are getting better at playing your instrument too!

It turns out that you don’t even have to be in the same place…great things still happen when we play music together, online from the comfort of your own home.

The PDX Quebec Jam Session is an inclusive learner-friendly place in the Portland area to share and learn the energizing and joyful traditional dance music of Quebec and Acadia, . If you play or are interested in learning this kind of music, this session is for you! Step-dancers are welcome.

This jam takes place at a public venue. If you’d like to receive invitations for this event, (or host an event), use the dedicated email address to get on the notification list. Contact: pdxqjam(*at*)gmail.com.

This jam is for folks who already play their instrument, and want to learn or share Quebec tunes. All acoustic melody and bass instruments, (violin, guitar, accordion, piano, bouzouki, flute, etc.), and experience levels are welcome.

Tunes are usually played several times through (unlike the Irish or Cape Breton sessions where tunes are only played 2-3 times), so that folks can get their fingers around new tunes and really enjoy playing the ones they know.

Schedule: Fifth Mondays of the month: (June 29, August 31, November 30, 2026), from 7 to 9 pm.

Join us up near Mt. Hood on Labor Day weekend for the 2026 Zigzag Old-Time Music Campout! It’s taking place Sept. 2-7, and will feature workshops with our guest artists Paul Silveria, Athena McKown, and Mark Kilianski.

Bring your instruments and your tent, van/small RV and take an easy hour drive from Portland to the beautiful Zigzag Mountain Farm on Mount Hood. Camping is in your choice of wooded sites or open meadows (restrooms and showers available).

Everyone is welcome, whether you play an instrument, sing, love to listen, or just want to relax in a beautiful place, surrounded by mountains and music.

Zigzag Mountain Farm is offering the option to come out early and stay for 5 days (Wednesday, Sept. 2-Monday, Sept. 7) or just enjoy the long weekend with a 3 day pass (Friday, Sept. 4 – Monday, Sept. 7).

Bring your instruments and your tent, van/small RV and take an easy hour drive from Portland to the beautiful Zigzag Mountain Farm on Mount Hood. Camping is in your choice of wooded sites or open meadows (restrooms and showers available).

Everyone is welcome, whether you play an instrument, sing, love to listen, or just want to relax in a beautiful place, surrounded by mountains and music.

Zigzag Mountain Farm is offering the option to come out early and stay for 5 days (Wednesday, Sept. 2-Monday, Sept. 7) or just enjoy the long weekend with a 3 day pass (Friday, Sept. 4 – Monday, Sept. 7).

Sessions are led by Marina Dodgson (fiddle) and Maurice Condie (guitar). These are open access sessions, so there’s no need to book in advance, you’re welcome to just turn up and join in!

We believe great things happen when we play tunes together! People connect with each other and make friends, and we keep our music traditions alive by sharing tunes and passing them on. What’s more, playing tunes can make you feel happy, and if you do it often enough, you’ll notice that you are getting better at playing your instrument too!

It turns out that you don’t even have to be in the same place…great things still happen when we play music together, online from the comfort of your own home.

Phoenix Folk Ltd exists to promote participation and performance in folk and acoustic music, song and dance across the North East of England. We aim to be a friendly face of folk music, to help keep alive the great traditions of folk music and to encourage talent and personal musical development.

With the return of good weather, the outdoor tune session resumes Thursday afternoons in the Butterfly Garden in Cook Park, Tigard, Oregon.

Let’s get together to play some tunes outside!

This is a weekly event in the good-weather months. Slow session, with plenty of room to split off a faster session. This is a repeating event, weather permitting — check Event News for changes.

The Butterfly Garden in Cook Park, Tigard, has wide open space where we can gather in shade, sunshine, or shelter.

Bring a chair and an instrument. The park is a great place to take a walk or have a picnic before or after the session. If you come with companions, there is plenty of room for them to roam among the trees and trails and by the river if they want a break from the tune playing.

Where we are gathering: as you enter the park via SW 92nd Ave, turn left at the open gate and head toward Shelter 4 (the park’s website has a map). We’ll gather on the lawn near Shelter 4, at the entrance to the Butterfly Garden. We’ll pick a shady spot if it’s a warm day, or grab a sunny spot if it’s a cool day. If it’s rainy we’ll get under the roof of Shelter 4.

Join us every Thursday from 7–10 PM at The Hostel Cafe for our weekly Old Time Jam, a welcoming gathering for musicians who love traditional Appalachian tunes, fiddle music, and acoustic string-band sessions.

All skill levels are invited to play, listen, and connect with our lively local folk music community.

The Bridge is a monthly songwriter showcase hosted by Kyle J. Glenn designed to create meaningful connection between artists and audience, $12.87 including service fee (doors open at 6:30 pm).

Brent Calderwood is a singer-songwriter performing his guitar- and piano-based songs, influenced by indie-folk, Americana, and the American Songbook.

For those who already know and support the artists, it is also an opportunity to hear their work in a quieter, more intentional room where lyrics land, dynamics breathe and the songs can be experienced fully.

For listeners, The Bridge offers audiences a chance to discover emerging songwriters in an intimate setting built for listening.

Just $10/week for the Winds of Donegal classes. Every Thursday we teach you the basics of the three‘s, seven‘s and jig steps so that you can enjoy the live music ceilis around Portland and Ireland. Classes are geared toward 13 and older. Bring a water bottle and wear comfortable shoes not heels.

Unlock an entire world of songs and musical genres with this intro course to fingerstyle guitar.

In this four-week course, we’ll go over popular fingerpicking styles such as Travis picking, grounded in classical guitar technique. Students will also have the chance to apply their skills through learning a simple fingerpicking song by The White Stripes!

This class is for you if:

-You strum a little guitar but have always wanted to try fingerpicking

-You love folk and/or singer-songwriters and want to learn how they play (whether classics like Bob Dylan and Joni Mitchell or modern players like Phoebe Bridgers and Kurt Vile)

-You want to learn how to accompany yourself using beautiful, melodic fingerpicking patterns

Come join an easygoing, supportive space to learn a new way of playing guitar! This class is limited to six students in order to give each student personalized attention and allow plenty of time for questions and exploration.

Beginner knowledge of guitar (how to strum and play a few chords such as C, G, and D) is suggested.

The Oregon Oldtime Fiddlers‘ Association (OOTFA) is a nonprofit organization with representation across the nation. As our motto states, the organization is dedicated to the perpetuation and promotion of oldtime music. Oldtime music is loosely defined as that played on traditional instruments dating from the first half of the 20th century. Many of the tunes we play date from the 18th century and even earlier.

Tune Explorer Sessions are a collaborative effort between MÓD and the TrailJams Community and consist of weekly slow & learning sessions for musician s who are just starting to build repertoire and skill, or are building proficiency on an instrument.

Bring your instruments and your tent, van/small RV and take an easy hour drive from Portland to the beautiful Zigzag Mountain Farm on Mount Hood. Camping is in your choice of wooded sites or open meadows (restrooms and showers available).

Everyone is welcome, whether you play an instrument, sing, love to listen, or just want to relax in a beautiful place, surrounded by mountains and music.

Zigzag Mountain Farm is offering the option to come out early and stay for 5 days (Wednesday, Sept. 2-Monday, Sept. 7) or just enjoy the long weekend with a 3 day pass (Friday, Sept. 4 – Monday, Sept. 7).

On Sunday afternoons, the Hostel Café in Portland, Oregon provides a friendly setting for this TrailJams Irish traditional tune session. TrailJams is a music community focused on making acoustic music together outside for the enjoyment of the musicians and of people passing by. The cozy café makes a great place to keep the music going in the winter. In better weather, the tune playing moves out to the café’s courtyard. Guests of the Hostel Café and the adjoining Northwest Portland Hostel are likely to settle at one of the nearby tables to enjoy the music.

NOTE: No session on Jun 7 (Sun) to make space for the Community Gathering.

The First Sunday monthly song circle led by Cecilia Eng and Dave Mongeau will feature spooky songs.

Bring your songbooks, voices, and/or instruments for an afternoon of singing. A hat will be passed to defray the cost of the room. A small donation of $5 per person helps us pay for the location (a small open chapel down a short hallway to the right of the main narthex).

Snacks and non-alcoholic beverages are welcome. You are welcome to share songs from any genre.

Fiddle Repertoire Class with Gabrielle Macrae (The Horsenecks). Learn a new fiddle tune or two at each class in a relaxed group setting.

Build your jamming repertoire and make connections with other fiddlers. 5:15 pm in NE Portland. $25 per class drop-in. 1st & 3rd Sundays.

The Horsenecks play their bi-monthly session (every 1st and 3rd Sunday.at the Moon and Sixpence Pub, free, 21+ after 8 pm.
