Strawberry Social June 7 2-4 PM

The PFS Strawberry Social this year will be online, like everything else. But that doesn't mean it won't be social! We're going to have big Zoom meeting, and we are very lucky to have Joe Hickerson leading a reprise of his Parodies and Other Humorous Songs workshop.

And, we'll have a chance to catch up with PFS activities, which have NOT stopped since the pandemic started.

And, we'll get to chat with each other, and generally have a good time. You need to bring your own strawberries and shortcake, though.

The Strawberry Social is for PFS members, their friends, or anyone who is interested in PFS, or anyone who just wants to have a good time.

We would like to get a count of how many people are coming, and we ask you please to register. Just click here: Register for Strawberry Social
After registering, you will receive a confirmation email containing information about joining the event. It's really easy.

And, if you would like to sing a humorous song at the event, send us an email: I'd like to sing a humorous song!

See you there!

Online Folk

Hey Everybody. There is a LOT of online folk music now, with opportunities to listen, to take classes, and to sing. Barry Gorden has been doing a super job posting the events he hears about, and if you have others, let him know at
eventscalendar@portlandfolkmusic.org. Look in the box for Upcoming Virtual Events.

Meanwhile, at the Portland Folkmusic Society, we are holding Saturday Evening Virtual Song Circles. These are free, with a suggested contribution of singing songs.

Every Saturday evening, we open the room at six and start singing by 6:30. Come when you can, stay as long as you like. All kinds of music and all kinds of people are welcome. We'll follow the song circle practice of letting each person sing a song in turn and it is perfectly fine to listen. Get a computer with a camera and mic, light up your face, and point your browser to https://us02web.zoom.us/j/87176553766. This is a new link and replaces the link we have used in the past.

Please click here for logistics information, and for information about how to connect by phone.

We also offer occasional workshops. If you would like to offer one, let us know - just click here..

See you on line, and stay safe.

Upcoming Virtual Events

Three videos for you

Compilation of Joe Hickerson's workshop on Humorous Songs
On May 6, Joe Hickerson led a workshop on parodies and humorous songs. Here are nine minutes of highlights from the three hours we spent together.

The Coronavirus' Ball - sung by David Ingerson

This is a great song, wonderfully sung by PFS's David Ingerson

How to keep your instruments clean

It's important to keep your instruments germ free during the pandemic. This will help.

Thanks Leo for forwarding that!

May-June Local Lore is Out!

This is a special issue of PFS's bimonthly newsletter, Local Lore. It examines how PFS members and others are dealing with life during the pandemic - lots of great vignettes. And, it talks about how the online song circles and workshops are doing - and finds they are doing very well in fact!

Thanks as always to Editor and Designer, Kim McLaughlin; Ruth Bolliger, David Ingerson for proofreading; Regular Contributors including David Hutchison, Barry Gorden, Kathy Johnson, Ray Ashmun, David Ingerson; and Jeannette Warner who mails them to you!

Local Lore is one of the benefits of PFS membership. Members can have a paper copy if they want, and if they don't need paper they can download it as a PDF from this site under the For Members menu/PFS documentation. You can also pick up a copy at most PFS events, even if you aren't a member. But we're not having any in-person events for a while, so if you would like Local Lore - and we think you would like it  - consider joining PFS. In addition to Local Lore, you get reduced prices on events, and the pleasure of supporting the music you love!

Like, Follow and Share

If you use Facebook or Instagram, you can see what we have posted on those sites by clicking on the  and  icons that you will now find on every page of this website. Really - do this now! You'll see our new short video talking about virtual song circles.

And - please! - when you visit PFS on FB and Insta, remember to Follow, Like and Share us! That makes a huge difference. Mark Zuckerberg's computers light up when someone gets a lot of activity, and so they show the page to EVEN MORE PEOPLE.
