Curated By Portland Folkmusic Society -- Benefit for Artichoke Music

Ken Vigil is a multi-instrumentalist (guitar, mandolin, banjo, harmonica, saxophones) who plays in styles from blues to bluegrass. His influences range from Townes Van Zandt to Jerry Garcia, David Grisman, and early John Coltrane.

Anne Weiss has been described as a cross between Janice Joplin and Joni Mitchell (Willamette Week). She is a multi instrumentalist, multi-layered vocalist, funk ukulele player, award winning songwriter and poet with 5 albums to her credit. She and her band create a warm. winning, funny, musically rich show.

Steve Cheseborough re-creates the blues, hokum and ragtime of the 1920s-30s, interspersing the songs with stories, history and humor. In his teaching, he works from the original recordings and tries to get his students to feel the groove with their hands and voices.

Waxwing John is a newcomer to Portland. He played folk guitar as a teen in the late ‘60s but became involved in theatre, primarily as an actor. After professional training he spent the ‘80s in NYC before moving to the SF Bay Area. Around 2000 Wax stopped pursuing acting and within a month had his old guitar out of the closet and soon fell back into the passion he had as a teen. Wax decided to focus on early country blues, as the singing and playing of this music had always excited and challenged him.
