About this event

Artichoke Community Music event series led by Chuk Barber, free entry but students must register (doors open at 6 pm, event at 6:30).

To serve BIPOC (Black, Indigenous, and People Of Color) middle and high schoolers by introducing them to Samba drumming with immersion in Brazilian culture with an emphasis on music history, team building, positive self image, confidence, and self improvement! While the emphasis is on reaching BIPOC youth, all are welcome. Parental cooperation is expected (as a learning partner) in developing practice times and rehearsal in the home environment.

Years of teaching this program in Portland Public Schools
Students have preformed and at the Jr. Rose Parade and won five times
Students have performed at the Waterfront Blues Festival
Percussionist for national touring acts: WAR, The California Honeydrops
Current local groups: Swirls of Jupiter, The Denominators, Rhythm Dogs, Big Bad Beat
