About this event

Artichoke Community Music online class led by David Ingerson, $100 for six classes, Drop-in price $20.

*** This is an online class conducted via ZOOM. The link will be provided by the teacher prior to the start date via email. ***

This course will begin with an overview of eight different song traditions in their historical and artistic contexts and with recorded examples from masters of each type. The next five sessions will delve deeper into four of the more important traditions, going backward through history (with the most accessible and easiest first). In each of those sessions we will work on learning (from a recording of a master) one or two of that type of song.

Those four types are: pub songs, traditional anglo-Irish songs, rhythmic Irish language songs, and the old arhythmic sean-nós songs. (If participants would rather not do the sean-nós songs in Irish, an English language translation could be substituted, if necessary.)
