Artichoke Community Music online class led by Zac Leger, $125 for six classes. Since the late 1960s a uniquely Irish version of the Greek bouzouki has become commonplace in traditional music far beyond Ireland and the British Isles. At the same time, interest in other larger mandolin-family instruments like the octave mandolin or the cittern (usually with 10 strings) has increased all over the world. This class is for any 8 string octave mandolin or bouzouki that can be tuned GDAD. We will explore chords and scales, counter-point and harmony, talk about the main modes used in traditional music and focus on how to utilize the unique multi-string tone and texture of the OM/Bouzouki to your best advantage. No previous background in the instrument required.
