We are entering into an area of extreme uncertainty due to the Corona virus pandemic. Public gatherings are still banned and are being replaced by online or live-streamed events.

I will do my best to continue to report on any online or live-streamed events that I am aware of, but I can not be sure to have accurate information in this fast-moving situation.

Best wishes for your good health,

Every Sunday, hosted by Patrick Connell and Kaden Hurst, $15 drop-in.

Ever wonder what makes a bluegrass jam sound organized and deliberate, like a band, even when it‘s just a casual jam? The essence of bluegrass is informality, but there is something inherently magical about how the players organize, differentiating it from being a twang-heavy song circle.

We cover kick-offs, turnarounds, soloing, and the general principles of leading a song within a group of friends or strangers.

Of course, we always end up learning new material in a session, but the focus is more on what to do with the song once we‘ve learned it, sharpening our ability to play it within a group of other bluegrass musicians, in a way that is compatible with other folks‘ skill sets.

Bring your instrument and an open-mind, and leave with the tools to be a bluegrass champ.

Blues harp from the heart -- Playing the harmonica really does strengthen your abs and improve your breathing. Probably the only instrument you play by inhaling, it is magical and mystical. Also, it’s one of the most affordable, portable and intimate of instruments, a friend to carry wherever you go. And it is a key element of America’s fabulous musical tradition, the blues. But it ain’t easy! All levels welcome, including beginners, as long as you are willing (and happy) to practice daily.

The 75 minute plot unfolds via spoken storytelling and song performance by Matt Sheely (Lost Lander, EL VY), with animated projections by Stefan Nadelman (Tiger King, Zen Diaries of Gary Shandling).
