"Play-Day in May"
A Sing-Along and Family Dance Special Event

This special event is hosted by The Portland FolkMusic Society (PFS) to celebrate its more than forty years of promoting folk music and folk arts in the Portland community.

The festivities are on May 13th (Saturday afternoon) from 1:30 to 5 PM. Doors open at 1:20 PM. The venue is The Fulton Park Community Center located at 68 SW Miles (1/2 block off Barbur Blvd in SW Portland). Admission $6/person.

Sing Along

led by Hugo Glanville (1:30 - 3:00 PM)

Under the guidance of performer and group song leader Hugo Glanville, participants will experience a lively Saturday afternoon singalong. People of all ages are encouraged to participate. Hugo has an extensive song repertoire as well as the skill, enthusiasm and wit to make for an enjoyable group singing experience for all involved.

Refreshment Break

(3:00 - 3:30 PM)

In the middle of the afternoon there will a break to refuel and socialize. Items for sale will include special treats provided by Beau Chocolat. ). In addition, the break provides an opportunity for a brief acoustic instrument jam session for any interested musicians.

International Family Folk Dance

taught by Janet Trygstad, music by "Five-Euro Tip" (3:30 - 5:00 PM)

The final act features a variety of international folk dances designed to be danced by people of all ages. The dances are easy to learn and several of the dances offer the opportunity for participants to sing as well.

About Janet Trygstad: Janet is an Oregon certified teacher who has been teaching folk dance for both younger students and adults in the Portland area for more than twenty years. About "Five-Euro Tip": Since 2004, this band has performed at a variety of venues including family dances, street markets, retirement communities and parties. Based in Portland, it consists of up to 10 folk musicians ranging in age from 12 to 80+ years. The band offers a diverse assortment of instruments, sounds and musical genres. For several years, "Five-Euro Tip" and Janet Trygstad have performed at the PCDC Family Dance in April.
