Board Meeting Minutes/Highlights

July 8, 2010

The Board met at Jane Keefer's home. Called to order at 7:45 pm by President.

Present: David Ingerson, Jane Keefer, Mary Rose, Morris McClellan, Rob Hoffman, Carrie Costello


1) Strawberry Social

June 27th event considered very successful. Final report will be forthcoming.

2) Finances

Motion was made and approved by the Board to authorize Treasurer, Morris McClellan, and President, David Ingerson, to sign checks for PFS. They will follow up with Chase Bank to complete the process.

3) Concert Committee

Eight concerts are planned, opening with the student performance in September, Peggy Seeger (potentially) in April, and the final concert in May. Concerts will continue to be held on the 3rd Friday. The committee points of contact: David Ingerson, chair; Lisa Stiller, publicity; Bev Kaminski, volunteers; Bill Murlin, contracts; Dave Mongeau, sound.

4) CD Committee

First meeting will be held on Wednesday, July 14, at Victor Dobyns home. Those planning to attend are David Ingerson, John Kellermann, Meryle Korn, Jane Keefer, and Lorna Fossand.

President's Plans

David will strive to interview all PFS volunteers to find out how the organization functions, the relationships, the interactions. His first interview was with John Kellermann, website guru and programmer. Board members discussed who - may be available to input data in order to free up John s time to focus on technology and moving to more dynamic systems.


1)   Portland Folk Festival (PFF)

A new group is planning an inaugural folk festival on August 19-22 and has asked PFS to curate a stage. Information - about the festival can be found on their website at . The Board approved the participation of PFS in this new endeavor. Further discussions to be held with PFF.

2) Board Meeting Minutes

Minutes of Board meetings will be submitted for inclusion on the website. Board meeting dates also available online and in the Local Lore.

3) Letters of Thanks

The board approved sending a letter of thanks to the following volunteers who are retiring from the job: Hal Day (4 years Singtime committee), Dick Weissman (4 years concert chair), Kay Peters (2 years calendar chief), Gil Gunderson (2 years treasurer), Fred Leeson (many years as sound operator), and Kevin Robinson (1 year Board president).  

Other issues:

1) Summer campout at Millikan's farm:    this may be the last year for the campout due to decreasing interest.

2) New Calendar Chief: Barry Gorden has agreed to take over calendar duties for the Local Lore.

The meeting adjourned at 9:15 pm. Next Board meeting will be Wednesday, August 4, 7:30 p.m. at the home of Mary Rose.
